The Senate voted yesterday Wednesday afternoon to acquit President Trump on two articles of impeachment. He was charged with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. This was indeed a historical trial.
Some forty-eight senators supported the verdict of guilty on Article I; charge of abuse of power. Then 52 voted not guilty.
To impeach a sitting President, the Senate would have needed 67 votes to convict Trump on both articles of impeachment.
His reign has damage and hurt so many people. The President represents the white privilege in America.
Donald Trump has abused the powers of his office to threaten many communities and also our U.S. allies. His threat to international allies is probably illegal; his refusal to produce documents about his decision process is illegal. And his claims about the motivation for his actions don’t pass the laugh test. The result of the process had never been in question after the House voted to impeach Trump in December.
Here is the deal, the Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Republicans allegedly, said months ago that they considered removing Trump from office. That a sufficient number of Republicans would break rank and support removing Trump from office, said by “New York Times. “
After months, of Trump being on trial only one Republican voted to convict and remove Trump. “Are you kidding me”?
I believe the Democrats knew their strategy was likely to result in the status quo. However, they proceeded to believe they concluded that Trump’s conduct in the Ukraine affair left them no recourse but to censure him in the most severe way they could.
Unfortunately, the Republican Senate betrayal of the Constitution is the reason why the president remains an ongoing threat.
